I am looking for a basic wheelchair for my roommate and best friend. He is a paraplegic and I have spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy (but I am fully ambulatory).
It can be "heavy" (I want something that will be heavy duty and last a long time). Chrome steel is fine, it is just for me to be able to drive him to doctor's appointments and be able to get it out of the car and push him into the office. If the upholstery was burgundy, that would be great (that is John's favorite color).
There are some needs. It should be new or "like new". No rust, no bent spokes or other metal, good tires, etc. It should have "desk length" arms so he can sit at a table better. It should also have removable arms so that it is easier to transfer him. He is 250 pounds, so he will put a chair to its limits.
The main problem is that I can not afford to pay much. John has Medicare and Medicaid, but he is trying to get a power wheelchair to be more independent. He makes just under $600 a month is disability each month, and my hours at work after over 2 years working, have been cut from 40 hours down to 12 hours a week. So my take home pay is only $72.22 a week. So as cheap as possible or free would be a great blessing to us.
We also need some help with ramping at the front and rear door. Looking for a threshold ramp just to get him over the "bump" at both doors. So that would be 4 ramps (one on the inside, and one on the outside, for each of the front door and the rear door). I pray to God that someone can help. I have tried every charitable organization in the area and even our church. So please, please help us. Take care, God Bless, and God Keep,
